How to Write a Marriage Biodata (With a Free Template)

For generations, the rishta process has started with one humble document: the biodata. A single page passed between families that says, in effect, “here is who I am, and here is what I’m looking for.” Write it well and it opens the right doors. Write it carelessly and it can give the wrong impression before anyone has even met you.

What a good biodata includes

The basics. Name, age, height, city, marital status. Simple and clear.

Your deen. This matters most to a practising family: your level of practice, whether you pray, maslak if relevant, hijab or beard, and your outlook on deen in the home.

Family. A few respectful lines about your parents and siblings: background, values, and the kind of home you come from.

Education and work. Your qualifications and what you do, kept factual and modest.

What you’re looking for. A short, sincere description of the qualities that matter to you in a spouse, with deen and character first.

Contact. Shared through your wali or family, not your personal number splashed everywhere.

What to leave out

Keep it to one page. Nobody needs your life story yet. Avoid a shopping list of demands about salary, height or looks; it reads as unkind, and it isn’t the sunnah of choosing for deen. Skip caste and biradari fixation, since it has no real place in how a believer picks a spouse. And above all, be truthful. A biodata built on exaggeration only leads to disappointment later, and there’s no barakah in that.

A tip on tone

Write like a real, warm human, not a CV. A biodata that sounds sincere and grounded will always land better than one that sounds like it’s bragging. Let your deen and your character do the talking.
