Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 September 2026

Azwaj is an Islamic matrimony app that helps practising Muslims and their families find a spouse in a respectful, halal way. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Azwaj, you agree to this policy.

Azwaj is only for adults (18 years or older) who are seeking marriage. It is not a dating app, and it is not for anyone under 18.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run a matrimony service:

2. What we do not collect or do

3. How your information is shared

4. How we use your information

To create and operate your profile; to suggest matches; to show or hide your photos and contact details according to your consent; to verify identity and keep the community safe; to process purchases; to provide support; to prevent fraud and abuse; and to meet our legal obligations.

Notifications

We send two different kinds of notice, and you control them separately in the app under Profile, then Notifications.

To send a notice we use a notification token for your device, your time zone, and whether you opened a notice. A notice never shows another member's name or photo on your lock screen, and you can choose to hide notices entirely until your phone is unlocked. Nothing is sent late at night or during Jumu'ah prayers; anything that happens then is delivered afterwards, and only if it is still true by then.

We do not call you, send you an SMS, or message you on WhatsApp for marketing unless you have separately asked us to.

5. Keeping your information, and deleting it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time:

Deletion is permanent. It removes your profile, your connect requests, your photo grants, the photos you uploaded, and your sign-in. Some limited records may be kept where we are required or permitted to:

6. The free biodata maker

Anyone can make a marriage biodata at azwaj.io/biodata-maker without an account. It asks for no photograph and offers no upload.

When you press create, we save a copy of the details you typed, including the contact name and phone number if you chose to add them, along with the design you picked, the country your device connected from, and the date. We keep this copy indefinitely, so that we can keep improving the tool and so that we can help you if you ever write to us about a biodata you made.

We will never call you, message you, or add you to any list because you used this tool. Your details are not sold, and they are not shared with anyone outside Azwaj. If you would like your copy removed, email support@azwaj.io with the name on the biodata and we will delete it.

7. The Rishta Card

A Rishta Card is a one page biodata that a family buys and publishes at its own link. This section describes it because it handles data differently from the rest of Azwaj, and because some of that data is about people other than the buyer.

What a card holds. The details the family typed, the mobile number they verified by OTP, and up to four photographs if they chose to add any. The card carries no phone number on its face: not the family's, not the wali's.

Photographs. They are stored in Google Firebase Storage in the asia-south1 region, in India. They are never served to a visitor from a Storage address. Every photograph goes out through our own proxy, resized and watermarked, so that no link exists that would keep working after the family took the card back. A card's photographs sit behind a second PIN, separate from the one that opens the biodata.

The two PINs. The family chooses who receives them. Changing either one immediately signs out every device that ever entered the old one. We must be plain about the limit: anyone who has been past a PIN can take a screenshot, and no change we make can reach a copy that has already been taken.

People who say they are interested. A visitor may leave a name, a phone number and a short note for the family. Those details go to that card's owner and to nobody else. They are kept while the card is live and for up to 30 days after it closes, then deleted. They are never used for marketing, never sold, and never exported in bulk. To have yours removed, email support@azwaj.io with the last few digits of the number you left.

Counting who opened it. The owner sees how many times the card was opened and roughly how many separate visitors there were. That second number is worked out from a one way hash of the network address and the browser, so it is an estimate and not a headcount. We do not show the owner any name, any device, or any location, and we do not keep a list of who opened the card.

How long it all lasts. A card runs for its paid term, then keeps its data for 30 more days so that renewing brings the same card back. After those 30 days an automatic sweep deletes the photographs from storage, the interested families' details, the view records and the card itself. Deleting your Azwaj account also deletes every card you own.

Taking a card down. Anyone can ask for a card to be removed at azwaj.io/c/remove, including the person the card is about, and they do not need the PIN or the account. We confirm by a short phone check that the request is genuine, then take it down everywhere at once.

8. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls, and consent-gated photo sharing. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data and to fix issues quickly.

9. Children

Azwaj is intended only for adults aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Azwaj, please contact us and we will remove the account.

10. Your choices and rights

You can view and edit most of your information directly in the app, and you can delete your account as described above. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or request a copy of your data. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

11. International users

Azwaj serves Muslims across the subcontinent and the diaspora. Profile and card data, including photographs, is stored in India: our database is hosted with MongoDB Atlas and our files with Google Firebase Storage in the asia-south1 region. Sign in, payments and analytics are handled by Google Firebase, Razorpay and Google Analytics, which may process data outside your country. By using Azwaj you consent to this processing wherever those providers operate.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
