Why we built Azwaj

The Prophet ﷺ said that when a person marries, they have completed half of their faith. Yet for so many practising Muslims, the search for that other half had come to feel like the opposite of their deen, endless swiping, photos on display to strangers, conversations with no intention, and families left out entirely until the very end.

We built Azwaj because we believed the search itself could be a blessing. Not a dating app with an Islamic coat of paint, but a rishta app designed, from the first screen to the last, around how Muslims actually want to marry: with modesty, with family, and with sincerity.

What that means in practice

It means your photos stay private by default, blurred until you decide someone may see them. It means there is no open chat to slide into; you connect with clear intention, or not at all. It means we will never ask for your caste or biradari, because it has no place in how a believer chooses a spouse.

And it means your family is not an afterthought. On Azwaj, a Wali’s contact is shared only after both sides have accepted, so the proper, respectful process can begin at the right moment, the way it always should have.

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy.” (Qur’an 30:21)

Created in pairs

Our name, Azwaj, simply means “pairs”. It is a reminder of a promise woven through the Qur’an itself, that we were created in pairs, and that seeking your pair is a noble, blessed pursuit. Our hope is that Azwaj makes that pursuit feel calmer, safer, and more dignified than it has ever felt before.
