Marriage Biodata Format in Word

The .docx is the copy you keep. Press Download as Word instead at the end of the form and you get a file that opens in Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice: edit it for each family, and send out a dated PDF cut from it.

The basics

Only these three are needed. Everything after this is yours to choose.

Personal
Families look for this first.
Deen

The part that matters most, and the part most biodatas leave out.

Education and work
Family

A rishta is between two families, so this section is read closely.

In your own words

Families read this part first, so a few honest lines are worth more than none.

Contact for rishta

Leave both blank and the PDF simply will not have a contact section.

Think before you add a number. Once this PDF is forwarded it cannot be taken back, and it may travel much further than the group you send it to. Many families print the Biodata without a number and share it only when a proposal is serious.

Your details are saved with Azwaj so we can keep improving this tool. We will never call or message you without your permission. Read our privacy policy.

Free. No account. Ready in a few seconds, in shaa Allah. The PDF carries the design you picked; the Word file is one clean layout you can edit.

Your Biodata is ready

JazakAllahu Khair. Save it, print it, or send it on. If you would like a different design, choose another one and create it again.

Would you like this on Azwaj as well?

You have just written everything a profile needs. If you would rather not fill it in again, send us a message and we will set it up with you, free. No charge now or later.

We build it together, on a call, with the person the profile is for. We never create a profile for someone who has not agreed to it.

Or do it yourself: create your free profile on Azwaj. The questions are the ones you have just answered.

Want it at a private link instead?

A PDF cannot be taken back once it is in a WhatsApp group. An Azwaj Rishta Card is the same details at a link and a printed QR that open only with a PIN you control. Change the PIN and every forwarded copy goes dead, while your own link keeps working, and you see who opened it and who left their number for you.

₹999 + GST for 3 months in India, ₹1,899 from outside. It stops by itself, nothing renews.

What is actually inside the .docx

One A4 page to start with, and nothing exotic in it. The Bismillah sits at the top, MARRIAGE BIODATA under it in rose, then the name in maroon with a maroon rule beneath. Every section after that is a rose heading over its own two column table: the label on the left, your answer on the right. What you wrote in your own words prints as plain paragraphs under their own headings. At the foot, a small table holds the QR in one cell and two short lines of Azwaj text in the other.

The section tables carry no gridlines, and that is deliberate: a family adds a row here and deletes one there, and visible borders make a deleted row look like damage. The rules you do see are deliberate: a line under the name, a light one under each section heading, and a hairline above the footer. To see the table edges while you work, Word draws them as dashed guides that never print (Table Layout, View Gridlines). Otherwise put the cursor in a cell and type. Tab at the end of the last row makes a new row.

The section headings are styled paragraphs rather than Word heading styles, so the navigation pane will not list them. Anything you left blank in the form never reached the file, so there are no empty rows to tidy (how the form treats blanks). Anything you type in does stay: a dash dropped into a row you never filled is ordinary text from that moment, and it rides through every later edit and into every PDF you cut from the file.

What to change for each family

This is what an editable file is for. Keep one master, and save a copy under a new name before you touch anything.

What never to change

Age, marital status, whether there are children, where you live, and anything to do with health. Rishta circles are small and the families in them talk, so two versions that disagree on a fact will eventually be laid side by side. Spell the name exactly as it appears on your documents, because it ends up on a nikahnama. And do not paste in a photograph. Word makes that easy, which is the only reason this page says it, and the form offers no photo upload at all.

When it runs past the page

Fix the page before you fix the writing. Reduce the top margin first (Layout, Margins, Custom Margins), then the space above each heading. Delete a row you do not want rather than emptying it, because an emptied row keeps its height and prints as a gap: right click inside it, then Delete, Delete Rows. If it still spills over, the writing is long rather than the layout tight, and what belongs in each section covers what to cut.

Common questions

Which apps open the Word biodata?

Microsoft Word opens it, and so do Pages, LibreOffice and Google Docs, including the Word and Google Docs apps on a phone. If you have none of them, upload the file to Google Drive and open it from there, which costs nothing and installs nothing. It is a plain .docx with no macros in it, so nothing should warn you when you open it.

Should I send the Word file itself, or a PDF of it?

Send a PDF and keep the .docx. A Word file reflows on somebody else's machine, where a substituted font or a different page setting can push your careful single page onto two, and whoever receives it can edit it and pass it on as though you wrote it that way. A PDF opens on any phone exactly as it left you. Use Save as PDF in Word, or File, Download, PDF document in Google Docs.

How do I keep track of the versions I have sent?

Name each file for the date and the family, something like Aisha-biodata-2026-09-03-Ahmed-family.pdf, and keep every version you have sent in one folder instead of overwriting it. Weeks later somebody will quote a line back at you, and the only way to know what they were actually given is to open the file they were given.

Can I add my own border, colours or mark to the Word file?

Yes. It is your document, nothing in it is locked and nothing is password protected. A page border is the safe thing to add, because Word draws it at the edge of the sheet rather than around your text, so it stays where it is as the content grows or shrinks. Changing the heading colours or putting your own mark in the footer table is fine too. Check that the file still fits its page afterwards.

Can I delete the Azwaj QR at the bottom?

You can. It sits in the last table on the page, so selecting that table and deleting it takes the QR and the two lines of Azwaj text with it. We would rather you left it there. It is worth knowing what it does before you decide: the code opens azwaj.io, not your biodata, so it tells whoever scans it nothing about you or your family.
